Canary Wharf, has a knack for reinventing itself, continually pushing the boundaries of modern architecture and urban development. Aspen at Consort Place is a new destination in the heart of Canary Wharf that embodies the spirit and characteristics of this vibrant area. With completions commencing in 2024, it’s great to see Aspen taking shape in the London skyline. This amazing time-lapse video captures the emergence of Aspen, from breaking ground in September 2019 through to it being one of the tallest residential buildings in Europe, climbing to an impressive 65 storeys.
Like every building, a skyscraper's construction begins beneath the ground. Foundations are even more crucial for taller buildings, as they support the immense weight and height of the structure. Workers excavate the site and use reinforced concrete to create the base. This process can take several months; in the video, you can see the gradual formation of the foundation from an empty lot to a solid platform ready to bear the skyscraper's weight.

Once the foundations are set, our construction team assembles the structural framework. This is where the iconic steel beams and columns come into play. Next, each and every floor is meticulously constructed, one by one. Workers pour concrete for the floors, install the infrastructure for utilities, and more. The video shows how each floor gets added, showcasing the teamwork, precision, and coordination involved in this stage.
A skyscraper's exterior is what captures everyone's attention, and Aspen is no exception. Glass panels and steel have been meticulously installed to create its striking façade, transforming it from a skeletal structure into a gleaming architectural masterpiece.
As Aspen grows, its intricate mechanical and electrical systems are added behind the scenes. Plumbing, electricity, and HVAC systems are installed. Meanwhile, it’s the interior design and finishes that make it truly come to life. You can see the transformation from raw, unfinished spaces with the addition of walls, ceilings, and floors.
Throughout the construction process, we carry out quality checks and safety inspections. We haven’t reached it yet, but completion is the final stage, where we undertake any snagging issues and those all-important finishing touches. Aspen will be polished to perfection before it's ready to open its doors to the world.
Glimpsing into tomorrow, Aspen at Consort Place is a testament to the spirit and the limitless potential of urban development. As it continues to evolve and reach new heights, it stands as a testament to the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of our cities.
